Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Anything you type into a search box on this site goes straight to the outside company that runs that search. The partner processes the request and returns the results. We do not keep a log of the names or dates you enter, and no copy of that query is stored on our side.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you send an email, we hold on to the message long enough to answer it. It stays inside our team. We do not hand it to anyone outside the organization unless a legal obligation leaves us no choice.
Data We Gather Automatically
Every time a page loads, our servers record a handful of technical details about the visit:
- The browser you are using and which version of it
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Your operating system and the type of device you are on
- Which pages you opened and how long you stayed on each
- The page or site that led you here
- The date and time of each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on your device, and this site uses them to see how readers move through the pages, which topics draw the most traffic, and where people tend to leave. Analytics services gather that traffic into aggregate reports. Your browser settings let you turn cookies off whenever you like. Some parts of the site may not behave the same way once you do.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site online and the pages loading quickly
- Passing your search request to the partner service that answers it
- Learning which pages readers find useful and which need work
- Finding and repairing technical problems
- Showing advertising that may line up with your interests
No Warrant Data on File
This site does not host, compile, maintain, or sell any database of warrants or personal warrant records. What it publishes is general guidance about which Houghton County offices hold warrant records and how a reader checks them, namely the issuing court, the sheriff's office, and the state case and ticket tools. Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 et seq., is the route for requesting an existing government record from the public body that keeps it, and a request under that law goes to the agency, never to this site. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and nothing we gather about visitors is assembled into consumer reports or files about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
The search boxes here are run by outside companies. Whatever you enter into one of them is handled under that company's own privacy policy rather than this one. Those partners decide how long they keep data and who they share it with, and we control neither choice. Read the partner's policy before submitting a search.
Links to Other Websites
Pages here link out to sheriff's office sites, court portals, state record tools, legal aid organizations, and outside search services. Clicking one of those links takes you off this site, and the destination's privacy policy takes over from there. Read it before you share personal details.
Some advertising partners may follow your activity across sites in order to target ads. That tracking runs on their systems, not on ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. A few categories of information may still reach other parties:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
- Search partners that handle the queries you run here
- Ad networks that place advertising on our pages
- Government or law enforcement offices when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard security measures to protect the information we collect. No service connected to the internet can promise perfect safety. We take reasonable steps to keep data secure, but a breach can never be ruled out entirely.
Users Under 18
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us data, contact us and we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 et seq., lets a person request records held by a public body, and MCL 15.235 sets the framework for how those requests are made and answered. That law applies to government offices. It does not govern a privately run reference site, so the rights listed below are ones this site offers as a matter of policy. At a minimum, you can:
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you
- Have information that is wrong corrected
- Ask us to delete your data
- Object to certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may change later. When it does, the new version appears on this page with a fresh effective date. Check back here if you want to follow how your information is handled.
